The simple inquiries of life from childhood to adulthood prepare us for exactly as we expect.
'Why does this always happen to me?' That is my favorite training phrase. We find it everywhere, and all around us, quite often! That inquiry is made by, those feeling that they are the victims of life. That inquiry or, a similar one spoken out loud is a reflection of the thoughts inside of the one doing the vocalizing. It is in essence a self-verification.
It can be dangerous as well, spreading like a wildfire, attracting more of the same. Children learn to become just as they were trained. Crying out a similar phrase in front of them, tells them from early on, I am one of life's victims, and that's what life is; victimization.
Think the thought, believe it, and watch every life situation prove it out to you.
Yes, you are a victim of life! How happy does that make you to be one of life's victims?
Bob Newhart did a comedy routine about a Psychaitrist listening to a patient as she was explaining life's little potholes. There was a pause, a straight face, and Newhart says to the patient very softly, 'stop it!' She is amazed, and asks for a repeat. He once, again says, to stop it.
The patient pauses, and expecting much more from a trained professional double checks the accuracy of what she heard. He asks, what part she missed. The 'stop' or, the 'it.?' Again, the patient expecting more, re-inquires. Newhart asks if she has paper, and something to write with, to which she leans over, grabs a book, and pen out of her purse. 'Ready?,' She is affirmative, and sets anxious to write the long awaited professional statement. A moment of perfect comedic silence ensues, and Newhart once again, says 'stop it.' She is once more inquisitive, and Newhart loses it, spelling it out for her!
'S-t-o-p i-t!' he screams, 'Stop it! That's all there is, stop it!' He Finalizes with 10 words pertinent to the situation beginning with, 'Stop it.....'
The latest entry on THE LAW OF ATTRACTION RADIO NETWORK BLOG somehow brought me to this thought pattern.
There is much to be said for that Newhart comedy routine.
According to many philosophies, old habits must be broken. In order to expect the best, you have to clear out expecting the worst.
So, stop it. Next time a self defeating thought comes to mind, stop it. Replace it with a self uplifting statement, and then vocalize it. Make it the new habit.
